Tore
Today, on our trip to Clemyjontri, i met a guy named Tore (pronounced like Torre, but he spelled it with 1 R). He saw me taking pictures of my kids and was intrigued by my camera which has a wide-angle conversion lens on it. He told me i shouldn’t be using it because i was “tricking” my camera. He was holding in his hands a Canon camera/lens combo that added up to probably $10k. He proceeded to take off his backpack, pull out a pimp Canon L-Series lens and said “try that out”. He let take a few shots with it on my camera around the park.
After chatting with him a little more, i found out he was from Norway, but now living in McLean. He’s a professional photographer/videographer and he’s done some crazy work for the US Marine Corps. Turns out he’s part of the Canon Service Program and has already gotten his hands on the new Canon 5D Mark iii, which he said, “isn’t worth it”. He said the programming for it is terrible and seemed kinda “eh” about the sensor. Told me to stick with the Mark ii. I may wait for the Mark iii just to see it for myself and see how it reviews, but definitely made me want to jump for the mark ii right now.
Anyways, this guy was awesome. Normally i hate when random strangers strike up a conversation with me, but not this time. I gave him my card and told him to shoot me an email. He even said he might come visit the church, but we’ll see. He actually offered to “teach me” some more photo tips the second we met. Not sure if our new relationship will go that far, but it was nice to meet him.
Today was a good day.
